Bolk is Kopinor’s service for producing and distributing course material in higher education. The service brings together material covered by the Kopinor licence and additional book excerpts licensed directly from publishers. Course material can be delivered in both digital and printed formats.
Bolk simplifies the production and distribution of course material based on book excerpts.
As long as an excerpt does not exceed 15 % of a book, all material registered in Bolk is automatically cleared for use. The content is delivered as ready-to-use PDF or EPUB3 files.
Through Bolk, universities and university colleges can:
Under the copying agreement between Kopinor and universities and university colleges, book excerpts used as required reading or other course material must be registered for rights clearance in Bolk.
This applies to book excerpts provided in both digital and printed form, including excerpts used in course packs.
The Kopinor licence generally allows up to 15% of a book to be copied.
If a larger excerpt is needed, additional rights may be obtained through Bolk. Many rightsholders have already authorised extended use through the service. In other cases, a request is sent to the relevant rightsholder.
Any additional costs are displayed when the order is submitted.
